Access at Entrance
BBC Birmingham is located on the seventh floor of The Mailbox Centre. The Entrance and approach through The Mailbox Centre is fully accessible to all areas using the lifts from all car park levels and from the street. There are also stairs and escalators available.
Reception
The Reception Desk is situated upstairs on the first floor and is accessed via the lift or stairs. The staff are able to deal with most requests and there is a low counter available.
Access to all areas
The public can only access two small areas of the centre. Both areas have good accessibility. A lift is provided for customers to get upstairs. The shop and tour meeting point are all on the lower level. It is possible to view live radio broadcasts from the windows into the studios on the lower level.
Facilities
BBC Birmingham Shop - within the Shop there is plenty of space and the counter heights are at an accessible height. Opening Times are: Monday - Saturday 9.30am - 5.30pm, Sundays - 11am - 5pm.
There are no toilets available for the general public. However, there is a toilet which is available on request for members of the public taking an organised tour.
Public Tours
Public tours are organised by the centre and can be booked from the BBC Shop on level seven. It is advisable to book tours in advance. An experienced tour guide will escort you through most areas of the centre including the broadcasting studios. These tours start from the lower floor at the meeting point and good access via lifts is available in all areas. Please be aware that there are some rooms which have sound effect systems which could cause some confusion to some visitors.
Interactive Area
This area has a range of activities available for members of the public to try, including live television feeds to a screen and interactive quizzes.
There are interactive facilities to view yourself on screen enacting different scenarios such as reading the news or weather reports.
