The Debenhams Gloucester store is served by 2 passenger lifts: one serving all floors and the other all but the third floor.
Currently the Lingerie and the “Outlet” offers are situated on mezzanine floors only accessible by the use of steps. Work to provide a vertical access platform serving both these areas is due to be completed by the end of September 2006.
As a company, Debenhams gives a high priority in achieving inclusivity in all aspects of it’s operation including for those with a disability. To this end, we are committed to meeting the aims and objectives of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) and this forms the basis of our company policy.
Our company-wide policy has been agreed with the Debenhams executive team and has been communicated to the rest of the company. Service to our disabled customers forms an integral part of Debenhams goods, facilities and service standards as well as its operating practices and procedures.

Consideration is being given to ensure that all of our premises are accessible to you. This is being addressed through physical modifications and by embedding our policy into working practices to create long-term sustainability. To help you in store, we have increased awareness for our in-store teams through disability awareness training. Modifications are underway within our premises, notably to overcome areas currently only accessible via steps. If you find that a property does not currently meet your requirements please be assured that we are working to rectify these issues and all improvements will be communicated to you via Direct Enquiries. Our main areas of focus are:
- improving accessibility to those stores currently not provided with either automatic doors or an open mall entrance.
- overcoming the few remaining areas of our stores where there are mezzanine floors (Autumn 06)
