Disability capital-access at the conference
Disability capital aims to be an inclusive conference and will provide a high level of access support. The Excel centre, although it has some access issues, has made a number of improvements to access in recent years.
Accessing the Excel Centre
- All public entrances allow for access by wheelchair via ramps and automatic opening doors.
- Once inside the venue, all floors are level, offering unobstructed access for disabled people.
- Strong tactile differences in paving are provided to indicate hazardous areas. Non-slip flooring has been used throughout the building.
- All public corridors and passageways have a minimum clear width of 1.2m
- All stairs and ramps are fitted with handrails and balustrades.
- Lift control panels with a choice of Braille or tactile buttons are located at a level that can be easily reached by someone in a wheelchair.
- Pictographic signs and symbols have been used to guide people around the venue.
- There are toilet facilities for disabled visitors located throughout the building.
- Wheelchair hire is available from the Information desks.
- Self Service facilities such as cash point machines and telephones are located at levels suitable for wheelchair users.
- The main conference room will be set out in a "cabaret" style which means that there will be tables for you to sit around.
- Refreshments and lunch will be brought to you at your table. We hope that this type of room layout will be comfortable and informal.
