Founded in 1979, Homebase has 300 stores throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland and employs over 17,000 staff across its stores, distribution centres and central offices. Nearly half the stores in the chain have gallery floors which are being introduced to provide extra space for Homebase to sell extended ranges of kitchens, bathrooms and furniture. Homebase serves over 1.5 million customers a week - an average of 78 million a year - and plans to open 10-15 new stores per year over the next three years.

In December 2004 Homebase was the first UK DIY retailer to achieve Forest Stewardship Council Chain of Custody certification.

Homebase recently sponsored a garden at the 2006 Hampton Court Palace Flower Show which was awarded an RHS Silver Gilt Medal, a fantastic achievement as this is only one step away from the almost impossible to achieve Gold Award. The garden, which was on show until Sunday 9th July, was entitled 'The Living Room' and designed by award-winning designer Phill Osman.
