In 1976 the Royal Exchange Theatre opened its doors on one of the most unusual theatre spaces in the country. After 30 years the space is still fresh and surprising and the Company continues to find exciting ways to stage its shows.
The Theatre is a seven-sided, glass-walled capsule, literally suspended from huge marble pillars and the Studio transforms for every show, with walls and partitions that slide and seating that moves to fit the set design.
The Royal Exchange Theatre strives to be an accessible venue and caters for patrons with disabilities. There are wheelchair spaces and a lift in St Ann’s Square, providing level access to all floors. We have infra-red hearing systems and welcome assistance dogs.
Each production in the Theatre has at least one audio-described performance and a Touch Tour for the visually impaired. Programmes are available in braille and large print, free of charge. We also offer BSL signed performances for all productions in The Theatre.
The brochure is available in large print, braille, on CD and email formats. Our Access Guide to The Theatre is also available from the Marketing Department on 0161 615 6784 or you can email marketing@royalexchange.co.uk.
There are two public entrances: one on Cross Street with steps only; one on St Ann's Square, with a lift straight to Box Office. This entrance is always open during performances.
