Access in Summary
Transport
There is a single bus stop located within the Hospital grounds on Higher Kingston Road. The bus service stopping here is the route number 1 travelling to and from Yeovil Town Centre. There is also a bus stop located on Kingston Road. Buses stopping here are the route numbers 23 and the 54 to and from Taunton. There are shelters with seating provided at both bus stops. The route from these bus stops to most of the Hospital Entrances is less than 300 metres.
Car Park and Drop Off
There is a large area of accessible parking bays immediately in front of the Main Entrance to Yeovil District Hospital. There are 14 accessible bays provided which are approached via Higher Kingston Road. This area is sometimes congested. Please note that the area to the left, immediately in front of the Hospital is an ambulance parking zone only.
The Main Car Park is to the left as you approach the Hospital on Higher Kingston Street. Please note visitors have to pay to park here, there is a pay station provided. There are two accessible spaces located within this Car Park.
Most of the Hospital Entrances have convenient Drop Off Points in front of, or near to the Entrance. These marked areas are intended for the pickup and drop off of patients and mobility impaired visitors only. Please note they are not to be used for short term parking.
Access at Entrance
The Main Entrance to the Hospital is well signed and is located just beyond the Accident and Emergency Entrance, to the front of the Main Hospital Building. The Entrance has level access throughout and has double, automatic, sliding doors which lead into a large lobby area.
The Outpatients Entrance is the furthest Entrance to the right when approaching the front of the Hospital. The Entrance is well signed and has an adjacent Drop Off Point with convenient dropped kerbs. Entry is via a set of double, outward opening, automatic doors. The Outpatients Department is to the left once inside.
The Accident and Emergency Entrance is to the left of the Main Hospital Building and is visible when approaching along Higher Kingston Street. The Entrance is approached via either a ramp to the right hand side or alternatively stairs which lead directly to the Entrance. Entry is via double, automatic, sliding doors.
The Women's Hospital Entrance is located on the access road to the rear of the Main Car Park. Please note there is quite a steep slope leading up to the double, automatic, sliding doors. During non clinic hours this door is locked. An intercom is situated to the left on the wall, please press this to gain access outside clinic hours.
The Queensway Day Hospital Entrance is located to the right of the Women's Hospital, behind the Main Car Park. This Entrance also allows access to the second floor of the Main Hospital Building and the Hospital Restaurant. Entry is via double, outward opening, automatic doors, with a level threshold.
Reception
The Main Reception is located to the left, once through the Main Entrance. This Reception area is permanently manned with staff both behind the Reception Desk and in front providing assistance. Visitors can get directed from here to all areas of the Hospital. There is an induction loop available for visitors with hearing impairments. The different departments within the Hospital also have their own Reception Desks.
The Outpatients Reception is to the left as visitors enter the Outpatients Waiting Area. Upon arrival for an appointment report to this desk and staff will direct visitors to the correct Waiting Area. This desk is permanently manned during clinic hours.
Facilities
Directly opposite the Outpatients Reception Desk is the Cafe which serves a variety of hot and cold drinks and snacks. This Cafe is open during normal clinic hours, there is plenty of seating available.
Throughout the Ground Floor of the Hospital there are visitor toilets available with both standard toilets and accessible toilets. The most convenient toilets are located within the Outpatients Department to the side of the Orthodontic Reception. There are toilets available on most floors of the Hospital, although fully accessible toilets may only be available to patients within the ward areas.
Access to All Areas
Access to all floors within the Women's Hospital is via either of the two lifts or the stairs. The Ground Floor of the Women's Hospital is used for Outpatient Clinics and has level step free access throughout.
There is step free access throughout the Main Hospital Building. Immediately inside the Main Reception Area there is a lift lobby with four lifts which provide access to all floors. To the right of the lift lobby there are also stairs available giving access to all floors within the Hospital. Level 3 of the Hospital is the Main Outpatients and Day Surgery Area with level step free access throughout.
