Access in Summary

Car Park and Drop Off

There is a multi-storey Car Park available to the rear of the hospital on Whittall Street. There are accessible spaces available and direct level access to the doorway for entry into the hospital.

There is also an alternative Car Park available which is located on Whittalll Street.

There is a small Car Park at the front of the hospital. There are limited spaces available however there are accessible spaces available for blue badge holders.

Public Transport

There are good public transport links to the hospital with a taxi rank on Steelhouse Lane and a bus stop near to Colemore Plaza serving numerous routes.

Access at Entrance

There are pedestrian routes clearly marked out running through the Car Park towards the entrance. The main entrance itself has step free access and a shallow ramp from the entrance to the reception desk.


The reception desk which is permanently staffed is located at the top of the shallow ramp just inside the main entrance. The location of all departments can be found from reception and staff will provide assistance if required. There is also an induction loop available for hearing impaired visitors.


Throughout the hospital all waiting areas are well lit and have toilets available. Seating is available to suit most users. In the Outpatients and Blood testing areas there are large screens displaying detailed appointment information to assist those with hearing/visual impairments. Private Breastfeeding areas are provided in the Outpatients area. Mothers are advised to ask at the Outpatients reception where they will be allocated an available private area.

Access to All Areas

The main corridor runs through the length of the main hospital building on all floors. There are stairs at either end and lifts are provided giving step free access to all floors. Access to ward areas is gained by pressing the button to the side of the doors to alert staff who will then open the doors.
